I love to knit and crochet. I have taught myself how to do both. I have been crocheting since I was about 16. I made my first baby blanket then for my nephew Matthew when he was first born. I remember spending hours undoing the mess I had made! What a riot. I also spend a lot of time in a local store asking advice and help from these 2 little old ladies who ran the place. I'm amazed I ever finished but Iwas determined! Over the years I have taught crocheting to my own daughters as well as numerous girls in my girl scout troops.
Last year I was very ambitious and decided to try and organize a community service project with my whole girl scout service unit. I ran two nights of instruction in crocheting and knitting teaching girls as well as adults how to make granny squares. We then took all the granny squares and made lap robes with them. I also made about 15 of my own lap robes and my girl friend Trinell made about as many as I did. Then over the holidays we had arranged for the girls to go caroling at a local nursing home. We wrapped up all the lap robes and gave them away to the residents in the home. It was quite a project and one I won't be jumping into again anytime soon! |
